What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences and keep you logged in. The ScanJunki iOS app uses cookies too, but only the minimum required to sign you in and handle purchases.

Essential cookies

Session cookie

Name: scanjunki_session

Keeps you logged in. 30-day expiry, HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, and encrypted using iron-session. Loaded on both the web and the iOS app. Required for the Service to function.

Preferences

Storage: localStorage

Stores your app preferences (selected marketplace, VAT settings, advertising fee settings) locally on your device. This data never leaves your browser.

Web analytics (web only)

On the ScanJunki website we use Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use the app. Clarity captures anonymous heatmaps and session replays with input masking so typed content (email, password, card numbers) is never recorded. It sets its own cookies on the web only.

Clarity is disabled in the ScanJunki iOS app. The iOS app sets a flag (window.__SCANJUNKI_NATIVE_IOS) that our code checks before loading Clarity; no Clarity scripts ever run on iOS.

OAuth sign-in cookies

When you sign in with Apple or Google, those providers set their own functional cookies during the sign-in flow. They are required to complete sign-in and are not used by us for tracking or advertising.

Payment cookies

On the web, Stripe sets functional cookies during checkout and in the billing portal to process your subscription securely. In the iOS app, purchases are handled by Apple's In-App Purchase system via RevenueCat — these providers set their own cookies only during checkout or subscription management.

Third-party data sharing

We do not share user data with any third-party data brokers. We do not link data collected by ScanJunki with third-party data for marketing or advertising.

We share data with the following processors only to deliver our service:

  • Apple — authentication and In-App Purchase on iOS (policy)
  • Google — OAuth sign-in (policy)
  • Stripe — web billing (policy)
  • eBay — product pricing API (policy)
  • Resend — transactional emails (policy)
  • Microsoft Clarity — web analytics, web only (policy)
  • RevenueCat — iOS purchases (policy)
  • Twilio — SMS marketing, opt-in only (policy)

Managing cookies

The session cookie is essential — disabling it will prevent you from logging in. You can clear cookies through your browser settings at any time. To opt out of anonymised analytics and search-intent logging, go to Account Settings → Privacy & Data.
